I recently set out on a journey around the charming town of Montepulciano in Tuscany, Italy, as a fervent wine fan. Montepulciano, known for its gorgeous vineyards and delicious wines, turned out to be a haven for oenophiles like myself. In the course of my research, I came across the top 10 wineries that are absolutely worth visiting and provide top-notch wine tours and tastings. I’ll share my knowledge and views in this article to help you organise your own wonderful wine experience in Montepulciano.
Wineries in Montepulciano – How it works
Wineries run with a strong sense of history and workmanship in Montepulciano. Everything starts in the vineyards, where grapes are meticulously grown while taking aspects like soil composition and light exposure into consideration. They manually select the grapes when they are fully ripe.
The grapes are then carried to our cellar to be crushed and destemmed. Depending on the style we’re going for, we ferment and age the wines using conventional or modern techniques. When wine is aged, which can take anywhere from a few months to several years, oak barrels are frequently employed to enhance the flavours.
They bottle, label, and get the wines ready for distribution once they’ve reached their ideal maturity. They also provide wine tours and tastings so that guests can experience their fine wines while learning about the winemaking process.
Azienda Agricola Boscarelli
With their superb wines, Azienda Agricola Boscarelli really captured my attention. I could immediately feel the passion and commitment that go into their winemaking process as soon as I entered their winery. Their wines exhibit the terroir’s richness with a flavour profile that is flawlessly balanced. Each bottle of wine from Poliziano perfectly encapsulates the flavour of the area. La Braccesc
I found thatd espite being surrounded by beautiful landscape, La Braccesca didn’t much impress me. Their wines lacked refinement and balance but did have a certain aggressiveness. The tasting experience felt somewhat rushed, leaving little room for discussion or exploration. La Braccesca is not a bad winery by any means, but it fell short of the standards I had set for it based on its reputation. What did impress me was their wide selection on wines, I tried around 5 different types with different levels each of depth and flavour.
